About Mansio Montessori

Mansio Montessori of Geneva has been educating children in the Fox Valley community since 1981 and has had the privilege of being like a second home to hundreds of students during their preschool and kindergarten years. Nestled in a residential neighborhood, one block from the scenic Fox River, Mansio Montessori of Geneva is located in a renovated 3,000 square foot residence, which is home to five classrooms.

Our programs start as early as 15 months and go through kindergarten. During these crucial early years at Mansio, our students gain not just essential skills for their future educational journey such as reading, writing, and math, but foundational life skills such as critical thinking and problem solving by exploring their environment through hands-on learning. With a warm, caring environment and independent active learning, students naturally build self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-reliance and resilience that they carry with them throughout their lives.

Montessori Preschool in Streamwood, IL: Top 5 Water Table Activities

Montessori preschools are a great option for parents who want to provide their children with an early Montessori education. One of the many Montessori lessons and activities that preschoolers can explore both at school and at home can take place at a water table. Ready to find out what they are? Below, we share our top five water table activities perfect for both a Montessori preschool in Streamwood and your home!

#1. Explore Colors, Shades, and Hues

Every color comes with an array of shades and hues. As a fun activity, provide food coloring and droppers to show your preschooler how the color blue can deepen through saturation.

Fill the water table with water and add a few drops of food coloring to create an array of colors and shades. Montessori preschoolers can explore the colors by touching, observing, and interacting with them!

Want to take this activity one step further? Provide white sheets of printer paper for the children to dye them from their color concoctions!

#2. Play “Sink or Float”

A Montessori activity that teaches children about density and buoyancy, the “sink or float” water table game is an easy way to have some fun while learning!

For this activity, you’ll need small object such as a stone, toy boat, twig, leaves, acorns, and block in addition to two containers: one that can hold water (such as a large bowl) and another empty container to hold the objects. Then, allow the children to place one object in the water-holding container at a time and watch them sink or float.

Want to help them hone their buoyancy and density learning? Have them guess if the item will sink or float before placing it in the water!

#3. Bubble Fun

Soap is much more than a cleaning ingredient. As another water table activity, add some ice, dish soap, and a squirt bottle for bubbly fun that allows your preschoolers the chance to explore with soap bubbles.

The youngest children might need a little help from an adult, but they can still enjoy this Montessori preschool water table activity by putting their hands in and creating big bubble wands or playing “sink-the-ship.”

Even for older toddlers, this Montessori water table activity is not only fun, but also an excellent way to develop their fine motor skills.

#4. Make a Pond

There’s so much to explore about a pond’s ecosystem! For this water table activity, make a pond by collecting a variety of items to add like rocks, moss, leaves, plants, and even insects (they can be wooden or plastic). Have kids scoop water from the table’s edge as they pour it in their Montessori preschool pond.

With this Montessori activity you can explore what lives at the pond including frogs, ducks, and even insects. Then, give your preschoolers creative license to landscape their own pond with rocks, moss, twigs, and a “home” for their frog.

Want to elevate this activity? Explore a frog’s lifecycle from egg to tadpole to adult frog!

#5. Build Sandcastles

Montessorians know that preschoolers building sandcastles is a great way to explore geometry fundamentals and fine motor skills, but there are so many ways you can turn this activity into an exploration of the senses.

With this water table activity, get creative in building a beach landscape! For example, use a variety of watercolors to make your sandcastles look vibrant and colorful. Alternatively, try using different textures with the grains, such as rice or lentils for texture stimulation.

Ready for a boosted sandcastle activity? Incorporate your preschooler’s sandcastle into an ocean scene by placing shells at the edge of the water basin and explore which sea creatures live in the sea or on the shore!

Individualized Curriculums in Multi-Age Classrooms

As part of the preschool curriculum we practice, the methods implemented at Mansio are distinctive, deeply contrasting traditional schooling. Furthermore, we understand the value of recognizing individual strengths and weaknesses during a child’s early education.

To best achieve this, we tailor the education to each student and center our attention on a child-centered learning environment as opposed to one that is standardized. Within our multi-age classrooms, we believe there are unique learning and leadership opportunities to be found through socialization and children teaching other children in hands-on, play-focused education. As a result, most graduates from our program excel in reading, math, development, and maturation promoting self-regulation and social consciousness.
